Jamshedpur girl Tanushree Dutta, was crowned Ponds Femina Miss India Universe 2004 at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai.

Tanushree Dutta, a B Com second year student from Pune University, was crowned Ponds Femina Miss India Universe 2004, amidst stiff competition from 29 contestants in Mumbai on Saturday night. Tanushree Dutta was born (1985) and brought up in the steel city of Jamshedpur. She left for Pune for further studies and is now based in Mumbai. When she was 18, Tanushree tried out for the Femina competition and was brought to the regional rounds, but in that year and last year, she failed to make it to the final group of contestants. After much effort, she made it this year, and aside from picking up the main crown over 28 others, she won the VLCC Miss Confidence and Pond’s Miss Beautiful Smile sub-titles.

Tanushree’s reply to actor Sanjay Dutt’s question in the final round, whether there was a healthy competition when only one wins, won her the crown.

The audience broke into applause when she replied, “When there is unhealthy competition everybody is a loser.”

Lakshmi Pandit, a 22-year-old amateur sketch artist from Mumbai was adjudged Miss-India World and Sayali Bhagat, a 20-year-old adventure sports lover from Mumbai won the Miss India-Earth title. Jyoti Brahmin from Kolkata andSimran Chandok from Chennai were the other two contestants in the Final Five.

Tanushree Dutta plays the role of a temptress in her debut movie Chocolate.
