Rituparna Ghosh, the critically acclaimed director of India is all set to make remakes. Rituparno has made plans to remake ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ which was classic of the 1960s. Rituparno had earlier decided to cast Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi in the Hindi remake, but Rituparno will now be making it in Bengali and the name given for its Bengali remake is ‘Abaho Mann’. It is heard that Ghosh has been wating for making the remake for a long time, and had thought of doing it in Hindi, but as it dint work out as he finds himself more comfortable in making in his own mother tongue that is Bengali.

In the original version of ‘Kaagaz ke Phool’ which was directed by the famous Guru Dutt starred Guru Dutt himself in the lead role and the female lead was played by veteran actress Waheeda Rehman. In the Bengali version, the leading cast will include distinguished actor Deepankar De who will be playing the role of Guru Dutt and Mamata Shankar wil play his wife and Ananya Chatterjee will be seen playing the role of Waheeda. The original film was based on the troubled marriage of Guru Dutt with Geeta Dutt. The cast in the Bengali version of the original will have Shobha Sen, wife of late veteran actor Utpal Dutt, playing the role of Deepankar’s mother. The son of Deepankar De and Mamata Shankar’s son will be played by Jishu Sengupta and actress Riya Sen will be playing his love interest. The film will be releasing in May.
