Neena Gupta is a critically acclaimed television actress, an Indian film actress and also a director. She is a very popular actress of Indian film and television actress. Neena Gupta has done her graduation in acting from the National School of Drama in 1980. She is mostly known across the nation for portraying roles which are not conventional types. Neena Gupta has done many films both national and international. Her several international projects include ‘Gandhi’ released in 1982, she played the niece of Mahatma Gandhi and films of Merchant Ivory, ‘The Deceivers’ in 1988, ‘In Custody’ in 1993 and ‘Cotton Mary’ which was released in 1999.

In Indian cinema, she has remained more popular with art or parallel cinema, but has also appeared in few commercial Indian films. Neena got her recognition as an actress through art films. Her break came with a mini television series in 1985, ‘Khandaan’, followed by ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’ which was directed by Shyam Benegal. Her other popular television productions are ‘Saat Phere’ , ‘Chitthi’ in 2003 and ‘Meri Biwi Ka JawabNahi’ in 2004. Neena was also seen hosting popular television series in Star Plus, she has hosted ‘Kamzor Kadi Kaun’ which is the India version of the well known television series ‘The Weakest Link’. But her all time famous serial is “Saans” which was both written and directed by her. The movie ‘Woh Chokri’ gave her the National Film Award for the Best Supporting Actress in 1994. Neena has earned positive review for her performance in the films ‘Nazar’ and ‘Amavas’.
