Bhootnath review

Monday, May 19th, 2008

‘Bhootnath’ is a simple story told in a simple manner by debut director Vivek Sharma. It is a story of a little boy and his relationship with a ghost. Amitabh Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Aman Siddiqui along with supporting cast Satish Shah, Rajpal Yadav, Priyanshu Chatterjee and a cameo from Shah Rukh Khan is the cast of the film. The story is mainly targeted for children from 4-14 years and the children will have immense pleasure watching the film specially the first half.

Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan and their small kid ‘Banku’ played by Aman Siddiqui has come to a new house, which is haunted by the spirit of ‘Kailash Nath’ played by Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh makes all efforts to make the people trying to live in his house leave within days. But this time he fails and ends up in being friends with Banku who calls him ‘Bhootnath’. The first of the film is worth watching, Banku and Bhootnath has gelled very well together and their scens are well scripted with hilarity. The director tries to show the sweet relationship between the ghost and the child and he is successful at that. The second half of the film is however more dramatic. In the second half, Priyanshu Chatterjee who plays the son of Bhootnath is back to sell the house. The special effects of the film ‘Bhootnath’ give it an added advantage. Amitabh has performed superbly as the ghost, but the person who steals the show is Aman as ‘Banku’. He is a real treat to watch. The rest of the cast has done a fair job. Overall it is a film worth watching. Good going Bhootnath.
