One of many Hollywood actors who are well known for essaying romantic roles is Richard Tiffany Gere, popularly known as Richard Gere. Gere was born on 31st August in the year 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a winner of Golden Globe award and also Screen Actors Guild Award. This American actor shot to fame in the 1980s and has been able to retain his position as an actor. He has starred in many well-known films from the 1990s to 2000s, ‘Pretty Woman’ opposite Julia Roberts, ‘Primal Fear’ and ‘Chicago’ being the most noted ones. For all these three movies, Gere received Golden Award in the best actor category. He has worked on Cape Cod in 1971 at the Provincetown Playhouse where he appeared in ‘Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead’. In the mid 1970s , Gere started appearing in Hollywood movies and in the year 1973, Gere acted in the original London stage version of ‘Grease’.
His first Hollywood movie was ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbar’ which came in 1977. Gere played the lead role in ‘Days of Heaven’, which was well received and was directed by Terrence Malick. He has even appeared in ‘Bent’, which was a Broadway production. With the successful film ‘American Gigolo’, Richard entered the league of talented actors. Richard is the first man to have been featured on the cover page of the magazine ‘Vogue’. Gere was made the ‘Man of the Year’ in 2006, by the Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals. He has won the Golden Globe Award for the ‘Best Actor-Comedy Musical’ for the movie ‘Chicago’.
