The English actor who immortalized the famous Mr. Darcy on screen is none other than Colin Firth. Colin was born on September 10, 1960 in Nigeria , his training of acting took place in North London at the Drama Centre. Colin starred in the award-winning stage production of ‘Another Country’ in London in 1983, this gave him the opportunity to start acting in films in 1984. Along with Kenneth Branagh, Colin Firth appeared in the film ‘A Month in the Country’, which was the film version of J.L. Carr’s novel. He acted as the leading actor in the film ‘Valmont’ in 1989. The portrayal of Fitzwilliam Darcy in 1995 made Colin very famous worldwide.

The film ‘Pride and Prejudice’ was produced by BBC was the adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic ‘Pride and Prejudice’, he fitted his character so well that, without him Darcy onscreen would have been incomplete. The popularity of his performance as Darcy gave Colin another opportunity to play Darcy. This time he played Darcy in ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ where he was paired opposite Renee Zellweger. His other movies include ‘The English Patient’ in 1996, where he had a supporting role, ‘Fever Pitch’ in 1997, ‘Shakespeare in Love’ in 1998, ‘The Importance of being Earnest’ in 2002, ‘Love Actually’ in 2003 and many more. Colin Firth is the jury member of amateur short film contest ‘Filmaka’. The television production where he has worked are ‘Donovan Quick’ which is an updated ‘Don Quixote’ version in 1999 and ‘Conspiracy’ in 2001.
